GROUP VOLUNTEERING ACTIVITIES

As part of a National Volunteering Conference 2020 full registration, delegates have the option to attend one of four sessions from 10:15 - 14:00 on Friday 20 March 2020:

  • Volunteering Researcher’s Session
  • Volunteer Resource Centre Manager Session
  • Masterclasses 
  • Participate in one of three Group Volunteering Activities

Pre-Conference RSVP is required for all of the Group Volunteering Activities a link to register will be sent once your Conference registartion has been confirmed. RSVP's are a first in first served basis as numbers are limited.

*Please note that only delegates who have purchased a full 3 day registration can participate in the Group volunteering activities.


Volutneers at the Perth Zoo

The Perth Zoo Docent Association Inc. (PZDA) has more than 300 ‘Docents’ who volunteer their time and knowledge to help create a more interesting and worthwhile experience for visitors, as well as helping promote and support Perth Zoo’s efforts in conservation. Each trainee undergoes a 10 week training course, on each Saturday, as well as another four days of probation with a Docent ‘buddy’ before they commence in the role. Come and visit one of Perth’s most popular tourist attractions and learn about this Volunteer program. Members of the Perth Zoo Docent Association will provide insight on how they recruit and retain more than 300 Docents and will take you on a tour of the Zoo so you can understand their role and see them in action.

ROTTNEST ISLAND

The Rottnest Island Authority (RIA) coordinates a wide variety of activities and events as part of an annual volunteering works program. Activities include environmental works such as construction, rehabilitation, fauna monitoring and conservation restoration projects. Catch the ferry from Fremantle over to Rottnest Island and participate in a beach clean-up micro volunteering session, facilitated by the Tangaroa Blue Foundation's Australian Marine Debris Initiative or tree planting exercise. You will then be taken on a tour of Island to showcase some of the work completed by volunteers.

Cost: Additional cost of $77.00 per person to cover transport costs

Kings Park volunteers

The Botanic Gardens provide a world-class service to visitors; inspiring and educating people in local history and promoting native flora. In the year to date over 5.4 million people visited Bold Park and Kings Park and Botanic Garden. The Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority (BGPA) have five dedicated volunteer groups who support the core activities of Bold Park and Kings Park and Botanic Garden and contribute to ongoing park management and essential visitor services. With the combined total of 850 members, BGPA volunteers contributed an estimated 45,340 hours of service, being the equivalent of 23 full time employees. As there are so many different volunteer roles at the Botanic Gardens, you will hear from the Friends of Kings Park and the Kings Park Guides.
